The Nano 50 awards are sponsored by Nanotech Briefs magazine and its publisher, ABP International (ABPI).
OFFICIAL RULES
Awards competition begins on December 1, 2004 and closes on February 1, 2005. Entries must be received by 11:59 pm ET on Tuesday, February 1, 2005. Winners will be notified by phone, e-mail, and/or direct mail, and awards presented in November 2005. There is no cost to enter.
1. To enter, complete and submit the official entry form at www.nanotechbriefs.com/nano50.
Choose one of three categories: Technology, Product, or Innovator. Provide 500 words or less about the nominated person, product, or technology in the nanotechnology field, including 1) realized or anticipated impact on the commercial market, 2) benefits and near-term practical applications, 3) novelty, and in the case of an innovator, 4) a brief history of accomplishments in nanotechnology.
2. You may submit multiple entries; however, each entry must be submitted separately. Each entry will be judged on its own merits.
3. All entries will be judged by an independent panel with expertise in the areas they are judging. Judges will not judge entries from their own organizations or from organizations with which they have a conflict of interest. All decisions of the judges are final.
4. There are no restrictions on the number of winners for each category. Judges will determine the top 50 entries based on standard judging criteria, and are not required to meet a quota for each category.
5. All entries will be judged on four criteria: realized or anticipated impact on the commercial market, benefits and near-term practical applications, novelty, and accomplishments in the nanotechnology field. Entries must fit within one of three categories:
Technology - A novel engineering method, process, or research breakthrough in nanotechnology that has or is anticipated to have a significant impact in one or more application areas.
Product - A unique product that incorporates nanotechnology in its design and/or operation, with significant current or near-term applications in one or more commercial market sectors.
Innovator - An individual recognized as a leader in a specific area of nanotechnology, with a significant background of accomplishments in advancing the state of the art in nanotechnology.
6. Prizes: The top 50 entries as chosen by the judges will receive an award, presented at an awards dinner to be held at Nano 2005 East in Boston in November 2005.
Winners also will be featured in the November 2005 issue of Nanotech Briefs magazine, on the Nanotech Briefs Web site, and in a press release to be issued in conjunction with the awards.
