UAlbany NanoCollege Professor to Chair
Leading National Clean Energy Association
Dr. Pradeep Haldar, professor and head of the NanoEngineering
Constellation at the College of Nanoscale Science and
Engineering (“CNSE”) of the University at
Albany and director of CNSE’s Energy and Environmental
Technology Applications Center (“E2TAC”),
has been elected to serve as the chair of a prestigious
national association on clean energy.
Haldar, who is also executive director of New Energy
New York, will serve a two-year term as chair of the
Clean Energy Alliance, which was originally created
by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable
Energy Laboratory (“NREL”) in Golden, CO,
the nation’s primary laboratory for research and
development related to renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The Clean Energy Alliance’s overarching vision
is to be the leading resource for clean energy businesses,
utilizing member technology innovations, resources and
networks to develop the clean energy marketplace and
foster economic development for its partners. In addition
to New York, the Alliance includes members from several
states, including Texas, California, Florida, Ohio,
Alabama, Georgia and New Mexico.
“The Alliance, and myself personally, are looking
forward to Pradeep Haldar’s leadership over the
next two years as chairperson for the Clean Energy Alliance,”
said Lawrence M. (Marty) Murphy, Ph.D., PE, Manager
of Enterprise Development Programs and Forum Chair of
NREL. “Over the last few years, he has been a
major driver in evolving the Alliance, and in helping
to establish it as a not-for-profit organization. The
accomplishments of the Alliance up to this point have
been outstanding by any measure; clearly, these efforts
also parallel Pradeep’s leadership of CNSE’s
energy technology incubation efforts, as the College
of Nanoscale Science and Engineering has become noticed
nationwide as a leader in the field.”
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead the
Clean Energy Alliance, particularly at a time in our
nation’s history when alternative energy technologies
are increasingly recognized as being of vital importance
to the country’s energy and economic future,”
said Haldar. “This opportunity to lead on the
national level reflects the success of New York State
and organizations like New Energy New York in building
a strong alternative energy sector in New York that
includes more than 170 new energy companies. At the
same time, it provides a link for these firms to powerful
resources which can only further that growth.”
Under Haldar’s leadership, the Clean Energy Alliance
will focus on five key areas to achieve its vision:
education and outreach, business acceleration, technology
transfer, technology development and incubation services.
