UFP Technologies Named a Fabricator
of Aspen Aerogels Insulation Technology
UFP Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of custom
engineered packaging materials, has been named a fabricator
of Aspen Aerogels, a developer of the nanotechnology-enabled
Aerogel Blanket™, used for thermal, fire and acoustic
barrier applications for a variety industries, including
oil, military & aerospace, building & construction,
processing, appliance and transportation.
As an authorized fabricator, UFP Technologies will convert
Aspen Aerogels material into finished products. UFP Technologies
will provide a variety of fabricating services, including
design & engineering, adhesive & flame laminating,
die cutting, thermoforming, heat sealing, RF welding and
custom equipment design and manufacturing.
Aerogels are highly porous solids formed from a gel in
which the liquid is replaced with a gas. Labeled the worlds
lightest solid, being over 95% air, an aerogel’s
capacity to insulate is unmatched. Aspen Aerogels’
innovative insulation blanket is 2 to 8 times more effective
than existing types of insulation technology and saves
both space and weight. For instance, when a 6mm thick
Aerogel Blanket is exposed to 1000° C heat on one
side, the other side remains at 100° C.
In addition, UFP Technologies’ pre-existing materials,
when used in conjunction with Aspen Aerogels technology,
can provide new products and services for future packaging
and insulation applications. With multiple manufacturing
locations throughout the US, UFP Technologies will supply
Aspen Aerogels with expanded fabrication capabilities,
which will allow them to expand into new markets.
