3-Axis MEMS Accelerometer
Analog Devices, Inc. (Norwood, MA) has added a 3-axis accelerometer to its iMEMS® family of motion signal processing products. Recognized for its MEMS manufacturing technology and ability to combine MEMS sensor structures with signal conditioning circuitry, Analog Devices leveraged this expertise to reduce the power consumption of the new ADXL330 3-axis accelerometer to a mere 200 microamps at a supply voltage of 2.0 V, less than 50% the power of typical competing devices and the lowest in its class. Designed with mobile phone handsets and other handheld consumer electronics products in mind, the ADXL330 features a rugged, 3-axis sensor structure integrated with signal conditioning on the same die and housed in a small (4 mm x 4 mm x 1.45 mm) plastic surface mount package.

| The ADXL330 is a small, low power (200µA at 2V) 3-axis iMEMS® accelerometer complete with signal conditioned voltage outputs on a single monolithic IC. |
"Three-axis accelerometers will significantly change how people interface with handheld electronics. Mobile phone OEMs, who are leading this trend, have clearly articulated their requirement for a price point of $1 or less within a few years to achieve their vision of a 3-axis accelerometer as a standard handset component," said Bill Giudice, vice president and general manager, Micromachined Products Division, Analog Devices, Inc. "With the launch of the ADXL330, we are unlocking the potential of this vast market using proven 3-axis core technology and a product roadmap that will drive future price points of $1 or less in high volumes, while providing the capability designers need today to transform the way consumers use mobile phones, media players, video games, cameras, and computers."
As the first product in a family of Analog Devices 3-axis accelerometers, the ADXL330 is suited for a wide range of consumer product applications requiring low power, small packaging, and reliable 3-axis sensing.
The ADXL330 is based on iMEMS Motion Signal Processing™ technology with a proven quality, reliability, and on-time delivery record backed by more than 200 million sensors shipped. Thisexperience enables Analog Devices to successfully serve high volume consumer markets.
