World's Smallest MEMS-Based Microphone

Knowles Acoustics, Itasca, IL, has introduced the Mini series of SiSonic silicon microphones, which the company claims is the smallest MEMS-based surface-mount microphone. With a footprint of less than 18 square millimeters, the device is used for applications such as MP3 players, mobile phones, and digital cameras.

The microphone can be assembled using standard, automatic pick-and-place equipment, conforms to lead-free requirements, and is compatible with standard Pb-free solder profiles. The Mini SiSonic is available in four models: Standard Omnidirectional with or without EMI/RFI protection, and an Integrated Amplified version with or without EMI/RFI protection.
