Micro Photonics Launches the Nanovea Series of Materials Research Instruments

Micro Photonics Inc., (Irvine, CA) a provider of surface materials instruments and laboratory services, has introduced the new Nanovea Series of surface science research instruments. The series, which was developed by the company, includes: nano and micro hardness, scratch and adhesion testers, and tribometers.

The Nanovea Indentation Testers with IBIS Technology are high precision instruments for the determination of mechanical properties including thin films, coatings and substrates. Integrated in the Nano Indentation Instrument is Multi Frequency Indentation Technology, a new technology for characterizing the visco-elastic properties of samples that are time/frequency sensitive or depend upon the frequency of the deformation, such as polymers/plastics.

Multi-Frequency Nano Indentation works on the following principle: A superposition of frequencies is employed, Fourier analysis separates the frequency dependent storage and loss moduli, and complex viscosity, the resulting visco-elastic response offers a complete frequency-dependent behavior measurement in a single indentation.

The Nanovea Scratch Tester series offers affordability and proven scratch testing methods for highly reliable results. The instrument's ability to characterize the film/substrate system and to quantify parameters such as friction force and adhesive strength are suitable for coatings ranging from plasma processed layers used in semiconductor and optical technology, to decorative and protective coatings used for automobile parts and consumer goods.

Also included are tribometers previously introduced in October, 2005 as the MT Tribometer Series. Since that time Micro Photonics has seen sales increase by five times. Now reintroduced as the Nanovea Series of Tribometers, these instruments perform pin-on-disk, linear reciprocating, high-temperature, high load measurements and are highly customizable. Available options include: tri-mode lubrication system (spray, drop, soak), wear displacement sensor, rotating connector, electrical resistance contact detector, computer controlled radius for spiral tests, humidity control system or tribo-corrosion module.

This exclusive technology is available from Micro Photonics Inc. Micro Photonics has been a leading supplier for materials technology instruments and laboratory testing since 1992. The company specializes in: Nano and Micro Mechanical Testing, X-Ray Micro Tomography, Ellipsometery, X-Ray Diffraction, 3D Non-Contact Profilometry, Thin Film Analysis, Biological Imaging Instruments and NSOM, SPM & AFM systems.
